The Foundry on Melrose - Chef Eric Greenspan Iron Chef Viewing Party

I got a last minute invitation to Chef Eric Greenspan's Iron Chef viewing party at The Foundry on Melrose last night. My friend Qahhaar's brother Michael is a chef working under Chef Greenspan there. Michael is currently studying at the world renown Le Cordon Bleu. He got hired at The Foundry after working at an event there. So, we were excited to see Michael in action. Q couldn't be more proud of his little brother.

Because this was a last minute thing, we didn't get a reservation in their main dining area. We were seated in the lounge, which turned out to be a blessing in disguise. You can see the open kitchen from the lounge, so all the kitchen actions happened right in front of us. Here's Michael working hard churning out the Iron Chef Tasting Menu for the night.

Since we couldn't order the special Iron Chef Tasting Menu, we decided to do a little tasting of our own. To start, we ordered some "Foundry Tots" and beet salad. They were delicious.

The secret ingredient for the Iron Chef battle was goose, and Chef Greenspan was recreating dishes he created for the battle. They treated us to some grilled cheese with goose liver from the tasting. I typically don't like liver, but these were tasty. I had two!

The Foundry is famous for their burger and grilled cheese. I wasn't in the burger mood so I got some grilled cheese with short ribs. They were out of this world! So flavorful.

Chef Greenspan is quite a character. He is very passionate about what he does. We got to see him in action right in front of us, yelling and cussing at the chefs, telling the servers to hurry up, and eventually started plating himself. He has a potty mouth and we were quite shocked when we first heard him talk, but it became very comical to listen to after awhile. He is also very friendly and went around tables asking how everyone was doing. Here's the Chef creating some food art.

Beautiful creations.

Here's the Chef and I sneaking in a quick shot. He beat Bobby Flay!

The gang.

More action in the kitchen. It's fascinating to watch. The Chef was actually singing. It was too cute. I felt like I was live at the Kitchen Stadium.

Q ordered their salmon which was cooked perfectly. His friends ordered their "Cuban Reuben" with pork belly.

I decided to go for the goose breast that was inspired by the Iron Chef tasting menu. Although the flavor was excellent, the goose was overcooked. It was hard to chew. :( But at least I can say I've had goose meat!

Then, we got some amazing desserts. Michael actually made these! Here are the Roasted Strawberry Shortcake and Apple Raisin Cobbler. We loved these.

I went for the Peanut Butter Bread Pudding. The peanut butter ice cream was incredible!

Q, Michael, and Michael's girlfriend Nicole. Michael has been awarded as a top student at Le Cordon Bleu, and he got this job at The Foundry after helping out at an event by chance. This shows how great of a work he is doing. He is the next top chef in the making!

The Foundry has good live music also. This night also happened to be Chef Greenspan's girlfriend, Jamie's birthday. We all sang happy birthday to her. Then, Chef Greenspan surprised her by proposing to her! It was such a sweet night for them, and I'm glad I got to be a part of the celebration. :)
